Just in time for the official start of summer, Barrie’s only Hip Hop monthly, THA UNDAGROUND returns Friday July 19th.

Celebrating all elements of Hip Hop, and always bringing you great vibes and the finest talent. Tha Undaground is Barrie’s only consistent Hip Hop series giving local talent a platform to perform and be celebrated, and showcases established artists from outside of our region, allowing everyone to party and connect under one roof.

Located in Barrie’s downtown core at CW Coops (3 Mulcaster St). It’s a central location offering good sound, food and drinks all at an affordable price

Headliner – Ground Illusionz
Ground Illusionz is a world renowned bboy crew and artistic collective based in Mississauga, Ontario. Our crew was established in 1999. Since Ground Illusionz inception over 15 years ago, they have been profoundly exceptional in developing their craft as professional artists, committed practitioners, successful educators and true students. Gi has inherited Canadian credibility as a solid team of Professional well rounded artist collective with versatile, post-modern aesthetics, while maintaining respect for traditional sensibilities and innovative applications. Keeping a positive and fun collective character as young performers, Gi is particularly critical and determined in unifying both their own aesthetic competence and perspective originality to make an underground, commercial & historical impact through an internationally renowned Canadian dance legacy.

Niko Sofianos is an interdisciplinary artist, entrepreneur, and visionary.

Over the past 18 years, he has been a competitive gymnast, fitness model, musician, sound engineer, teacher, trainer, idea developer, and inspirational leader. Following a breakdancing injury and multiple explorations of ways to heal, combined with his ongoing music production and spiritual learning, he evolved a vision which he titled and trademarked as FIT HOP. FIT HOP is a teacher-led exploration of the human body, mind and creative spirit. Its power is experienced in a group context as integrating movement, music, and message. Through FIT HOP, Niko has redirected his own ADHD, renaming it ‘Attention Dialed Into Higher Dimensions’, and he recognizes that everyone has some kind of restlessness that can be channeled into meaning and aspirational living. He offers workshops in schools around the world and is currently developing a teaching protocol so that other like-minded, like-spirited and gifted individuals can become leaders and teachers in this movement.

Josh Varriano, also known as JV, is a rising star in the world of rap/hip-hop music. Born and raised in Barrie, Ontario, Josh nas been making music for about 10 years now. However, he only started taking everything seriously when the covid-19 pandemic hit. For Josh. music runs in his blood. His mother has always been really into music and singing around him when he was younger, while his father was very talented on the piano. It’s no surprise that he was drawn to pursue a career in music. When asked about hit biggest musical influences, Josh said that the group of people he works with is his biggest inspiration. They push and motivate each otner to do their best, and whenever they have something new, they send it to everyone for feedback. He also looks up to famous artists such as Russ, Lil Wayne, Tupac, Biggie, Juice WRLD, and many more.
